The suspension is contained in a communique issued at the end of the executive council meeting of the union.
The statement was signed by the union’s Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Adhe, Secretary, Mr Joe Iyalekhue and Publicity Secretary, Mr Friday Umurhurhu.
It said the decision was reached after the council analysed resolutions it reached with the state government.
The statement said that the amendments effected by the negotiating team included the payment of the 27.5 per cent teachers professional allowances from Jan. 1, to all registered professional teachers in the state.
It also said that the promotion of secondary school principals and other Unified Teaching Service (UTS) staff would be effected in line with existing rules.
It added that the promotion of university graduate teachers in the primary school system beyond Special Grade Level 14 would be effected in line with existing rules.
The statement said the process of promotion for primary and secondary school teachers would begin as soon as schools resumed.
It further said the negotiating teams from the union, NLC and the government would meet to appraise the implementation of resolutions reached before the end of November.
The statement, however, said that a staff audit was necessary, considering the huge cost of maintaining the school system in the state.
The union directed its members to resume their normal duties immediately without fear of molestation and intimidation.
It appealed to the state government to keep faith with the agreement reached in the overall interest of industrial harmony and educational development of the state.
