Isang noted that the team is in a good frame of mind to begin to battle to win the trophy after posting a respectable performance last season.
He told newsmen that after playing in the Premier League since they gained promotion two seasons ago, it is time for them to play in the continent.
"I must confess that we did very well last season. I know that nobody gave us a chance when the season started, but we knew exactly what we wanted and we realised our expectations.
"We have a new coach in Justin Tenger. We have retained 22 players and all the players are back in Uyo and have started training after we unveiled the new coach.
"I am confident that we will rank amongst the best teams next season. The players are willing to do their best. The government is ready to continue their massive support for the team and the management are not relenting in their resolve to motivate the players for the task ahead.
"We are going to prepare very well and not take chances so that at the end of the season, Akwa United would have qualified to represent Nigeria in one of the continental competitions," Isang said.
Akwa United finished in the 12th position last season with 50 points last season.
