Ondo Poll: IG Commends People, Security Personnel

The I-G's commendation is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba.

Abubakar said that in spite of some operational and logistic challenges, the electorate exhibited discipline, orderliness, patience and understanding.

He said that such disposition, coupled with the immense cooperation they accorded the police and other sister security agencies, made the job of policing the election much easier.

The development, Abubakar said, had proved that democracy had come to stay in the country.

``The exemplary comportment and conduct of the people of Ondo confirmed the fact that power belongs to the people.

``It is also an affirmation of the age-long position of the force that security is the task of everyone, and that the responsibility of policing a nation should not be left to the police and the security agencies alone."

The I-G also commended the high level of commitment, professionalism and patriotism exhibited by officers and men of the police, the military and other security agencies during the election.

He said that their discipline, dedication and hard work created the conducive environment for the peaceful and crisis-free conduct of the poll.

``The remarkable synergy amongst the various security agencies is a clear signal of the new collective resolve and commitment of all law enforcement agencies to work together for the greater good of the nation.

``One of the positive fall-outs of the Ondo State election is the clear message that the Nigeria police can amicably and successfully work with the general public, in the discharge of its constitutional responsibility of protecting life and property," he said.

Abubakar noted that their performance justified the huge resources invested in pre-deployment, training, general capacity building and welfare of the personnel involved in the security management of the election.

He advised Nigerians, irrespective of differences in tribe, tongue and culture to emulate and replicate not just in political and election-related matters, but in all ramifications of life, the maturity displayed by the people of Ondo.
