Tom Cruises Files $50 Million Lawsuit

 

This time, Tom is suing a magazine publisher over stories suggesting that he abandoned daughter Suri. The magazines in question are In Touch and Life & Style, and Tom is seeking $50 million in damages.
"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri," said his lawyer in a statement.
"She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible." Given his three decades as a superstar, it's no surprise that Tom has had to deal with his share of defamation issues. Here is a look back at some of the notable disputes involving the actor.
You will recall that in 1998, the "Mission: Impossible" star won a libel case against a British tabloid that called his marriage to former wife Nicole Kidman a sham. The magazine ran a story that said the marriage was all a hoax designed to cover up Tom's homosexuality, and the couple didn't take kindly to that. Tom and Nicole swiftly filed suit, and they were awarded an undisclosed settlement. The story also claimed that Tom was sterile, another allegation that he fought in court.
Also in the early 2000s, Tom was involved in a pair of high profile disputes that involved claims that the actor was gay. One suit involved a gay porn star that claimed to have had an affair with the actor. The suit was ultimately dropped, and Tom won a $10 million settlement.
In another, a man claimed to possess a gay sex tape featuring Tom. The tape never surfaced, and Tom ultimately won the battle. The man later made a public statement that Tom was a heterosexual, and that the tape didn't involve Cruise.
