The roads are the Ozalla-Udi bye-pass for those going from Enugu toward Anambra and vice versa, the Abakpa Nike-Opi road for those travelling to Nsukka and the northern parts of the country and vice versa, and the Eke-Nsude bye-pass for those travelling from the north toward Anambra and vice versa.
The commission’s Sector Commander for Enugu State, Mr Funmbiyi Olawoyin, told newsmen in Enugu on Tuesday that the roads would decongest the ever-busy 9th Mile.
Olawoyin said that adequate security arrangements had been made for the safety of the travellers while a `Help Area’ with medical personnel would be provided for first aid and rescue of accident victims in the event of crashes.
``Our plans for the end-of-year patrol which will last till Jan. 15, is that our men will keep vigil and patrol black spots where we usually experience traffic logjams.
``The spots include Holy Ghost, Naira Triangle, Obollo Afor and Ninth Mile Corner. We evaluated our past performances and will use more men for the operation. We want to remove the nightmare from Ninth Mile,’’ he said.
According to him, articulated vehicles will not be allowed to use the alternate routes as height bars will be erected to restrict them.
The sector commander said that no fewer than 400 additional personnel from other states with less traffic during the period, 10 vehicles, motorcycles, ambulances, trucks and combined teams of security personnel would be available for the operation.
While wishing commuters crash-free celebrations, Olawoyin advised them to avoid excessive speeding, drugs and alcohol, dangerous driving and to use valid driving license.
The sector commander called on the media to partner with the FRSC by educating the drivers on the dangers of road accidents and bring issues of road safety to the front burner in their reportage.
