This is contained in a statement signed by the Director Press and Public Relations, Malam Halilu Dantiye, in Kano on Sunday.
It stated that the action was with support of National Agency for Food, Drugs and Administration Control (NAFDAC), to crackdown on all unauthorised sale of drugs and other items.
The statement said Kwankwaso made this known during an interactive session with Patent Medicine Dealers, top security officials and other stakeholders at Government House, Kano.
It said NAFDAC had set up a committee to tackle illicit sale of drugs, adding that the committee had confiscated and destroyed fake and adulterated drugs worth more than N600 million.
According to the statement, NAFDAC has also discovered and sealed warehouses containing illicit sale of medicines.
``No government can stop the sale of drugs, we are not fighting anybody. What we are saying is that anyone who wants to sell drugs must abide by the rules.
``You can open a Chemist or a Mall to sell drugs but let it be duly approved by law in accordance with professional standards,” it added.
The statement said it was not in line with the best practices for drugs to sell openly in Sabon Gari market like vegetables or grains.
It said statistics had shown that Kano ranked number one in drug abuse in the country and urged the people to cooperate with NAFDAC and his administration to tackle the menace.
Responding, Chief Boniface Ibekwe, gave assurance that the traders would support the initiative and expressed optimism that the meeting would bridge the communication gap between government and patent medicine dealers.
Reports say that Kano government had directed the drug marketers at Sabon Gari to vacate the market.
