Nigerian pilgrims entertain visitors at Wailing Wall in Jerusalem

The Wailing Wall is the relic of the ancient wall which surrounded the Jewish Temple's courtyard and it is one of the holy sites in Israel.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that hundreds of visitors, pilgrims and adherents of the Jewish religion, who visited the wall, watched with admiration as the Nigerian pilgrims sang and danced.

A tourist guide, Mrs Edna Halda, told the pilgrims that the Romans ceded a little section of the wall to the Jews after the destruction of the temple during an invasion in 70 AD.

She said that the section was left for the Jews to come, cry and celebrate the destruction of the temple; hence the naming of the relic as the ``Wailing Wall.’’

``It is simply called the Wailing Wall because people cry by the wall,’’ Halda said.

The pilgrims had earlier prayed for themselves and the nation by the wall.

They also dropped their written prayer requests by the wall, in line with the Orthodox Jewish traditions.
