They made the call in their separate Christmas messages in Enugu.
In his message, the Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rt. Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma, urged Christians to use the period to preach and promote peace rather than engage in social vices.
``There should be adequate security of churches, particularly in the North while those in the South should watch out for kidnappers.
``Let us believe in Christ, abstain from sin, envy, jealousy, corruption and every evil acts this Christmas season,’’ he said.
A catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Amarube of St Joseph’s Parish Okpatu in Udi Local Government Area, urged Christians to celebrate Christmas with peace and love.
``Christmas is about giving out to people. It is about justice and peaceful coexistence, being spiritual and not materialistic,’’ he said.
Also, the General Overseer of the Throne of Grace Church, Rev. Azuka Obi, urged Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with moderation and help those around them.
``Jesus Christ is not materialistic and extravagant. He lived a modest life worthy of emulation, so we should be modest in all we do,’’ Obi said
