Agbeja said this on Wednesday in Abuja in a paper entitled ``Computer Appreciation for Improved Service Delivery’’ which he delivered at a three-day workshop for judiciary officials.
He said the judiciary played fundamental role in national development by efficiently resolving disputes and upholding civil rights and the rule of law.
Agbeja also said that there was need for the judiciary to improve its services through the application of computer and Internet-related services to enhance operational output.
He said information technology enables court administrators, lawyers and litigants to function at a faster speed, increased efficiency and transparency.
Agbeja said the effective management of information systems must be developed to provide the judiciary with specific litigation data, plaintiff’s requirements and personnel information.
He added that computer applications in the judiciary would transform the operations of the courts as well as eliminate bureaucratic delay in the dispensation of justice.
Agbeja said that information technology could make the data required for judicial decisions to be available faster, aid e-filling and case management.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that chief registrars and secretaries of Area, Sharia and Customary Courts attended the workshop, which was organised by the National Judicial Institute.
