National Economic Council endorses tour of FG, states projects nationwide

Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra, stated this while briefing State House Correspondents on the outcome of the monthly NEC meeting held in Abuja.

According to him, the publicity tour is meant to monitor, evaluate and showcase federal and states projects across the country.

He said that the council deemed the tour worthwhile not only for its potential to showcase best practice in project implementation and value delivery, but also for the prospect of exposing the investment opportunities in each state.

Obi further said that the council constituted a committee, comprising six governors, one each from the six geo-political zones of the country, to ensure the success of the tour.

He said the committee would be chaired by Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom and would meet with the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Planning Commission to review the logistics required for the tour.

``The Minister of Information did a presentation on the need to do a tour of all the states of the federation.

``The Council considered the presentation and found it worthwhile and set up a committee with a governor representing each zone.

``This committee will be chaired by Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom in order to ensure the success of that project.''

Also commenting on the planned media tour, Gov. Godswill Akpabio, said that the tour was apolitical and had nothing to do with political platforms of serving political office holders.

He said that the tour would involve the inspection of all projects executed or being carried out by the three tiers of government.

In his contribution, Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State, said that the ongoing National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) in Kaduna was at an appreciable stage of completion.

Yakowa, who stressed the need for regular inspection of ongoing projects to ensure speedy delivery, said the power projects in the state would meet the deadline for the privatization of the power sector.
