The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, said in a statement in Lagos that the signs were in addition to the existing 10,000 traffic ones currently adorning major roads and highways in the state.
"The massive installation of these signs will enable road users to be more conversant with the signs and their significance.
"It will also assist road users to know the various restricted routes for motorcycles and tricycles; designated bus stops, no parking, no trading, no waiting, no u-turn and no entry zones, among others," he said.
The Commissioner urged Lagos residents and visitors in the state to be conscious of traffic signs while driving, to guide them on how to drive safely and make proper use of the roads.
He implored the public to inform the state government through GSM number 08174616936 on locations where they felt that traffic signs were needed.
"I appeal to all and sundry to obey the road signs and ensure strict compliance to the road traffic law as the law was made to ensure sanity on the roads, safety of lives and property of Lagosians."
He advised the operators of commercial motorcycles and tricycles to desist from plying the restricted 475 routes.
"Anyone found violating the law will be appropriately sanctioned."
He said the roads where traffic signs were newly installed included Ojota-Kudirat Abiola Way, Maryland, Allen Avenue, Ogudu, Iyana Oworo-Toll Gate, Bourdillon, Mushin, Ojuelegba Roundabout.
He listed other areas as Surulere, Nathan Street, Yaba, Itire road, Alausa perimeter and Funsho Williams Avenue.
