Reports say that the road links Edo, through the northern part of the state, with Ondo State.
The road users expressed regret that many lives and property had been lost on the road due to the dilapidated bridge.
Reports say that big potholes riddle the bridge and two vehicles hardly move on it at the same time as its narrow structure had almost collapsed.
Commuters and motorists have also become victims of armed robbery due to the condition of the bridge.
In a interview with newsmen at Uzebba on Sunday, Mr Samson Ojeawere, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Owan West Local Government Area, described the bridge as “a time bomb”.
“I cannot begin to narrate to you what motorists ad commuters have gone through because of the bridge.
"We have lost some of our members as a result of accidents on the bridge and we have also been robbed on that bridge countless times.
“I do not really want to dwell on the problems of the bridge; what I am saying is that the usefulness of the bridge has long gone.
“The situation on the bridge is such that any vehicle coming from an opposite direction has to wait for the one on the other side to pass before moving on,” he said.
Reacting to the development, Collins Amoni, a commuter stressed the need for the bridge to be rebuilt.
“The bridge shakes dangerously whenever a vehicle, especially an articulated one is on it.
“If the government does not want to rebuild the bridge, they should complete the Sabongida-Ora/Ugbibieze/Sobe Road to provide alternative route and link between the states."
In her comment, a business woman simply known as Adesuwa, said that she had been robbed on the bridge several times while the vehicle she boarded was waiting for another to pass.
Mr Adewale Debo who lives in Ifon, a community close to the bridge, said that the condition of the bridge had affected the lives of the people.
"Each time an incident occurs, we are always the first people to move in to rescue victims.
“We have seen many vehicles, especially trucks, plunging into the river. It is terrible because the road leading to the bridge is not only bad but hilly and full of dangerous bends.''
Debo urged the government to help to reduce the carnage on this route by completing the abandoned Sabongida-Ora/Sobe Road project, started during Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
As you will recall, Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo had in June, threatened to take over the Sadongida-Ora/Sobe Road project, if the Federal Government failed to ensure its completion within six months.
