Yobe Govt. Accuses Its ``Enemies'' of Sponsoring Violence in The State

The government in a statement made on Tuesday said the burning of public property was sponsored by its enemies within and outside the state to scuttle its progress.

The statement issued by the  Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, in Damaturiu, and made available, said the government would not be distracted.

It noted with dismay the burning of schools, places of worship, public offices and vehicles, saying the action was detrimental to the cause of the common people.

"In June this year, primary and Islamic schools as well as churches in some parts of the state capital were attacked by miscreants.

"These boys perpetrating these atrocities have sponsors, they are not doing it in the name of religion or for religion and, they stand to gain nothing from their actions

"I can assure them that we will not be distracted from our efforts and goals of serving the people effectively and efficiently,"  the statement added.

It assured that the government would reconstruct the structures destroyed.

"We could have used these funds to provide other services that our people need. This shows that the ultimate victims of these attacks are the common people," it said.
