Osuchukwu made this known in an interview in Lagos on Wednesday. She said that the increasing use of social network by Nigerians would result in better ways of relating with people on specific interests and better ways of doing business with better results.
Osuchukwu said the use of Google Plus which provides people with content and topics of interest to interact with one another online had improved transactions on the internet between businesses and customers. She said Google Plus had made a great impact on a number of industries in Nigeria like music, entertainment and education through the provision of an internet conferencing facility for users at no cost.
According to her, an apprentice can learn a trade from a trainer who he has never met in real life through the use of the Google Plus application. He pointed out that the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, had adopted the platform to teach and communicate with their long distance students. She said the Google Nigeria office stepped up activities to educate Nigerians on the use of Google Plus to ensure that Nigerians would benefit from the application so as to increase their productivity in 2013.
The manager said that Google products had been designed to improve the level of security of its users through a verification process made to ensure that people who connect to the applications were real persons. She said the security required the potential account owners to provide their mobile phone numbers to which a verification code from Google would be sent to complete the account setup.
She said that although there was not much the organisation could do to give adequate protection to users of the internet, people should apply self-protection measures to keep off internet predators.
Osuchukwu said that although some of Google’s products had no provision for young people below 18 years, young people could still benefit from the use of Google Search and YouTube facilities. She said that Google Nigeria would train some Nigerian journalists in 2013 in the Google Media Academy. The marketing manager said the programme was designed to make work easier for Nigerian journalists
