Nigerian Traditional Attire is the Best - American Fabric Dealer

Mrs Wenddy Rowland, an American, told the newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday that the traditional attire was a medium of artistic expression and glamour.

Rowland, who owns a fabric shop in Asokoro, said traditional attire provide a medium to show the diverse culture of the country through various designs on fabrics.

`` Traditional attire such as Ankara, lace, adire, jacquard, tie and dye and many more are unique and enhance the inner beauty of an individual.

``When you talk of fashion I can boldly say that Nigerians have all it takes to be fashionable. I love wearing Kampala, Ankara because I look exceptionally beautiful in them,” she said.

Rowland decried the influence of western culture on the dress sense of the people and called on government and parents to work hand in hand to encourage the wearing of these attires.

According to Rowland, schools should make it compulsory for students to wear the Nigeria traditional attire to school at least once a week.

She said that that would enhance the love for culture in them.

She advised Nigerians to go back to the culture of wearing traditional clothes as it was a form of national identity.

Mrs Rebecca Taiwo, a fabric seller, said that youths do not like the idea of wearing the traditional attire ``they believe it is not fashionable enough” she added.

Taiwo said that her children complained that it was not fashionable to wear traditional attires as it made them feel older.

She urged youths to form the habit of wearing the local attires because it made them beautiful and showed a bond of national unity.
