Gunmen Launch Fresh Attacks on GSM Masts in Mubi

Residents of Mubi, who spoke to newsmen, said the latest attacks took place around 4 a. m on Thursday.

The residents said the attack took place in Sabon-Layi area of the town where explosives were thrown at one of the base stations in the area, damaging part of it.

``Also yesterday, another tower near the market was attacked in the night around 8 pm", one of the residents, who preferred anonymity said.

The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Ibrahim, confirmed the two incidents.

Ibrahim , however, did not specify the operators affected by the attacks but said there was no loss of life during the Wednesday and Thursday incidents.

Reports say that gunmen had last Wednesday launched similar attacks on masts in the commercial border town which killed four people including two students of Adamawa state University and Federal Polytechnic Mubi during the attacks on some masts near the schools.

Residents of Mubi have expressed concern over possible communication cut-off with the outside world if the assault continued.

'`In the name of God and everything good, we are calling for a cease fire and dialogue", pleaded one of the residents of the embattled town who simply identify himself as Aliyu.
