Edo Election: Oshiomhole Cruising to Landslide Victory

Though an official result was yet to be announced by the resident electoral commissioner (REC) as at press time, results trickling in from some polling units in the three senatorial districts – Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North – indicate an all-out victory for the incumbent governor

A major highlight of the election is the crushing defeat of the so-called Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) god fathers in their voting units and wards. Other highlights of the election included the loss of the PDP in the polling unit where its candidate, General Charles Arhievbere, voted. The PDP also lost in the polling units where two other bigwigs – Chief Ogiadomhe, who is chief of staff to the president, and Dr. Sam Ogbemudia – cast their votes.

Oshiomhole won in seven of the 10 wards in Igueben Local Government Area in Chief Tony Anenih’s Central Senatorial District with a wide margin and Oredo LGA in Edo South.

In Oredo Ward 12, the ACN polled 1,434 votes in 10 units, while the PDP secured 217 votes.

The scores are as follows: Unit 1: ACN 121 votes, PDP 27 votes; Unit 2: ACN 137, PDP 17; Unit 3: ACN 168, PDP 25; Unit 4: ACN 124, PDP 12; Unit 5: ACN 138, PDP 13; Unit 6: ACN 144, PDP 18; Unit 7: ACN 151, PDP 27; Unit 8: ACN 142, PDP 28; Unit 9: ACN 156, PDP 35; and Unit 10: ACN 153, PDP 15 votes.

In Oredo Ward 2 (PDP’s candidate, Charles Airhiavbere’s ward), the ACN has 1,088 votes in six unites while the PDP has 163 votes, with the following unit scores:

Unit 28: ACN 220, PDP 43; Unit 4: ACN 107, PDP 19; Unit 23: ACN 96, PDP 17; Unit 19: ACN 189, PDP 23; Unit 15, ACN 136, PDP 23; Unit 20: ACN 360, PDP 38, ANPP 2 votes.

The ACN leads in 12 units of Ward 10 of Oredo with 1,804 votes to PDP’s 344 votes.

The total results of Ward 9 of the same locality put the ACN at 2,800 votes and the PDP at 626 votes.

Results from the Edo Central senatorial zone indicated that the ACN is leading in the following areas:

In Igueben local government, the party has won seven of the 10 wards, while it is also leading in Ubiaja, Ohordua, Ewatto, Ugboha and Ewohimi in Esan-South East local government.

Besides, the ACN leads in Ward 1 and Ward 11 in Esan West local government area.

In Ozalla, Owan West LGA, ACN won all the units of Ward 1 with a total of 1,137 and 599 for PDP.

At Okada Grammar School, ACN won by 265 to PDP’s 62.

At Eweka Primary School at Egor LGA, ACN polled 300 to PDPs 17; at the Oba Market in Oredo, ACN polled 404 to PDP’s 54.

At the S&T in Egor LGA, ACN pulled 200 to PDP’s 25. At Ward 6, the total sum of Units 1 to 10 in Niger College, Ikpoba Okha LGA indicates that ACN won by 1,575 to PDP’s 54.

Ugonoba in Orhiomwon LG, ACN 293, PDP 82, Ezomo Primary School, Oredo Ward 3 Unit 8, ACN – 183, PDP – 30, CPC – 5 Unit 9, ACN – 202, PDP – 55, CPC – 1; Unit 10, ACN – 192, PDP – 31.
