Okonjo-iweala directs DMO to pay subsidy to oil maketers

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, in Abuja on Thursday.

Okonjo-Iweala directed the DMO to pay marketers with verified claims as soon as supporting Sovereign Debt Notes were provided by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA)

According to her, the directive is to reinforce the Federal Government’s determination to ensure that there is no disruption in fuel supplies across the country.

She recalled that payments based on verified claims resumed after the June meeting of the Federation Accounts Allocations Committee (FAAC) when N17 billion were paid.

Okonjo-Iweala, who is also the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, added that the verification of claims was the procedure adopted by the ministry for managing fuel subsidy payments.

The minister said that the report of the Presidential Committee headed by Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede stated that some marketers also owed government significant sums of money.

She said that government expected that those identified would pay back.

Okonjo-Iweala advised the marketers not to embark strike over the subsidy payment because government was addressing the issues in a way to protect the interest of the country as well as genuine marketers
