Obasanjo's invasion of Odi did not solve the problem of militancy in Niger-Delta - Jonathan

It would be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was recently quoted as criticising President Jonathan for not applying the Odi approach. It would be also recalled that the invasion of Odi was precipitated by the massacre of about 12 security officials by some militants in the town

While stating that he was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State during the period of invasion of Odi, President Jonathan disclosed that the reprisal attack on Odi only succeeded in killing innocent people including women and children, He further stated that no single militant was killed during the Odi invasion.

According to President Jonathan, if the problem of militancy in the Niger-Delta was solved by the invasion of Odi, there would not have been the need for the amnesty programme by Chief Obasanjo's predecessor, Late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua
