Oyesegun, who gave the advice in an interview on Monday in Abuja, said that to further avoid the risk of contracting cancer through recharge card scratching, the card could be scratched with the nylon intact.
``Any chemical agents that is foreign to the body can cause irritation and then can cause cancer, especially if you do it over a long period of time.
``There are some people that it is their job to be doing this by the time you do it for five, ten,
15, 20 years, yes you are expose to a higher risk of developing cancer.
``Use metal or any other thing to scratch the cards, some people just scratch it with the nylon interact; if you just scratch it like that without losing it the thing comes off.”
A study released by the United States medical research unit revealed that cancer could be caused by recharge card silver nitro oxide.
Also speaking on the same issue, Ms Lizzy Okonmah, Founder of Saint Monica Cancer Foundation, advised people to always wash their hands after scratching recharge card.
Okonmah, a cancer survivor, said the scratching recharge card was one of the ways people could get cancer.
``When you scratch with your hand, after scratching, wash your hands very well because you might mistakenly put your hand in the mouth and it also leads to cancer.
