We recall that the officer who received the award and N30,000 cash, had in August, returned N1 million worth of recharge cards belonging to an accident victim in Ota.
Another officer, Miss Medina Yusuf and a marshal, Mr Adamu Salama, also received award for best officer and best marshal as well as cash prize of N30 000 and N10,000.
On the occasion, the sector commander, Mr Ayobami Omiyale, noted that it was important to reward excellence and hard work.
``If people like these go without adequate reward, their colleagues may make jest of them and they may be discouraged.
``Babalola could have diverted the cash and the cards to his personal use but he, instead, handed it over to the corps before we eventually gave them to the owner who confirmed that the items were intact.
``It is important to show that this command, and indeed the corps, is not just about punishing offenders but also recognising and rewarding excellence as we are showing today, ‘’ he said.
He hinted that the command would nominate the awardees for FRSC national award to mark the corps' 25 years of existence early next year.
Responding on behalf of other awardees, Babalola thanked the command for finding them worthy and promised that the gesture would make them perform better.
``I could not have been tempted to pocket the money and the cards because they were not mine and that was not the way the corps taught us to carry out our duties,'' he said.
