Friendly Matches for Amputee Footballers'- Official

NAFF's Secretary, Victor Anusa, told newsmen in Lagos that the amputee football World Cup would hold in Kaliningrad, from Oct. 6 to Oct. 15.

The NAFF official said the national team had commenced training at the National Stadium, Surulere, as part of build-up to the biennial football fiesta.

Anusa said the proposed friendly matches would determine how well the players had internalised what they were taught at the training sessions.

The secretary said such evaluation would put the team in competition shape.

``The idea is to evaluate their level of compliance to the training programmes which has to do with the rules, as well as assessing their readiness for the competition.''

Anusa said the NAFF had communicated its interest to be part of the fiesta to the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), the organisers of the competition.

According to the secretary, the federation is yet to receive any response from WAFF, adding, ``we are still waiting for response from the organisers, which will hopefully come soon.''

Anusa said the early preparation would provide maximum time for training and camping for the athletes, to ensure a good outing for Nigeria at the competition.

``The training will continue in earnest, while waiting for the reply, this is because it’s a global event which is highly competitive, and we don’t want any delay approach,'' the secretary said..

You will recall that the NAFF national team did not participate at the 2010 edition in Argentina, as a result of inadequate preparation.
