Nigerians Eulogise Late Artist, Elebuwa

Mofe-Damijo said this on Wednesday night in a chat with reporters at the candle light procession to honour the deceased in Lagos.

``I worked and shared an intimate relationship with him.

``He told me that if he had known all that he got to know when he was ill, he would have taken care of himself very well and lived differently, `` he said.

The National President, Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ms. Ibinabo Fibrasima, said that she found it difficult to say farewell to a `father and colleague`.

``I want us actors and actresses to celebrate ourselves and love ourselves.

``It is vital that we also celebrate our veterans and key into our health scheme to help us when we get sick.

``We have to help ourselves before government comes in to lend a helping hand, `` she added.

Mr Okey Bakassi, former adviser to Gov. Orji Uzo Kalu, of Abia State, advised actors not to cry for the loss of Enebeli like people who do not have hope.

``We cry when we were born, and we are nurtured and we started to labour and became somebody and worked all our lives to keep it up.

``So, when we close our eyes in death, it is rest and we stop fighting for survival, `` he said.

The son of the deceased, Oyema Elebuwa, said that his father was happy that he achieved a lot in the entertainment sector. ``He used to sing, play the guitar and saxophone; he told me that he lived well and was happy achieving a lot in the sector and he died fulfilling all that he set out for.

``But, my father was not a rich man,” he said. Elebuwa said that he would immortalise his father in the future by building a stroke foundation in his name.

Reports say that the procession started from Masha Roundabout in Surulere, and terminated at the National Stadium, Lagos.

The late Elebuwa, 66, died on Dec. 5, 2012, at Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad, Haryana, New Delhi, India. Actors and actresses that graced the occasion included Segun Arinze, Julius Agwu, Monalisa Chinda, Stephanie Okereke, Chales Okafor, Zak Orji and Dejumo Lewis.
