Hypertensive Patients Urged to Check Heart, Kidney Regularly

Dania told newsmen in Lagos that it was important for the patients to check such organs like the heart, kidney and blood vessels.

She said that the state of the organs would determine the required drug to control the patient’s blood pressure.

"Medication is administered to improve the situation and overtime regulate the blood pressure; a periodic assessment is essential to keep a tab on progress.

"Regular checks also help the patient register any discomfort that may be associated with the use of a particular medication," Dania said.

She stressed that reviewing a patient periodically was absolutely essential to prevent sudden death.

According to her, a periodic re-assessment of the heart, kidney and blood vessels determines the urgency and intensity of anti-hypertensive drug classes.
