U.S Restates Support for Nigeria Youths’ Empowerment

 

Hawkins gave the commitment at a news conference in Lagos.

He said that youth empowerment and development would be given priority attention due to the high level of unemployment in the country.

``Because the US government strongly believes in youth empowerment, we would assist to sustain it.

``Nigerian youths are the future of this country, and so, must be empowered to efficiently harness their potential. They are the leaders of tomorrow, `` he said.

The Consul-General also disclosed his government's plan to promote the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) in Nigerian communities.

Hawkins added that there would be `significant` investment promotion, between the two countries especially in areas like agriculture, energy, telecommunication and health sector.

The US Envoy said the consular services would be upgraded to provide Nigerians and people of the United States, prompt service delivery.

``Under the new arrangement, Nigerians and people of the US will have easy access to prompt consular services.

``We want to make contacts between Nigerians and Americans less cumbersome, `` he said.

Hawkins said to facilitate the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) development programmes, more American corners would be established in strategic locations across the country.
