LASPOTECH Admits 4, 000 for its National Diploma Programmes

The Deputy Registrar, Admissions, Mr Kolawole Akande, said in Ikorodu that 70 per cent of the number would be for science and technical courses, while 30 per cent was for management courses.

Reports say that no fewer than 10,000 candidates sat for the institution’s 2012 post-Unified Tertiary Institutions Matriculation Examinations in July.

``Not less than 4, 000 candidates have been offered admission for the 2012/2013 academic session.

``The institution could have admitted more, but we are limited by the polices outlined by the National Board for Technical Education and the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board,’’ Akande said.

He said the admission policy had made it compulsory for polytechnics to give 70 per cent placements for science and technical courses as part of efforts to promote technology in the country.

``This policy favours the sciences more than the management courses. Without this policy, we would have run into problems as we cannot admit all the students who chose our school at a go,’’ Akande said.

He explained that the 4, 000 candidates included first and second batches of admissions.

Akande, however, disclosed that the third list would be released next week.

``The first and the second lists of candidates that chose our institution had been released.

``After the third list which will be released next week, we will announce the last batch of candidates that based on requests.

``The last list will consider indigenes and requests from staff and others,’’ the deputy registrar said.
