Handball Association Distributes Facilities to Schools

The association’s Technical Director, Toyin Aluko, told reporters that the equipment comprised goal posts, balls and nets which had been given to some schools.

``Right now, we have been able to give schools like the Army Cantonment Junior Secondary School, Ikeja, and others the equipment we purchased to encourage students to play the game.

``As I am talking to you, we have five pairs of goal posts to be distributed to schools in Bariga, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ikorodu, Badagry, and Epe local governments.

``We have told our coaches to go round these local government councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and identify a school in each to install the facilities.

``We are interested in raising a team each of the local government areas and LCDAs,’’ she said.

The technical director urged schools around the areas to make good use of the facilities for the sport’s development.

``Schools around the environment should endeavour to start using the facilities to groom students who have interest in handball.

``I learnt how to play handball on the court of another school that had the facilities. So, before the facilities will go round, let the schools share the available ones,’’ she said.

Aluko said the association would do more to raise interest in the sport at the grassroots.

``Talents are there in schools and we will not relent in our efforts to discover them,’’ she added.
