NUPENG Urges FG to Rehabilitate Refineries

Achese who made the call in Lagos on Tuesday at an interactive forum with oil and gas workers said that rehabilitation of the refineries would bring succour to suffering Nigerians.

He said it was regrettable that the refineries were not working and that petroleum products were being diverted in the open market for sale.

``We urge the government to question the 445 barrels of fuel being diverted to the open market, `` he said.

The union president said that NUPENG was not averse to privatisation of the sector but that refineries must be repaired and made functional.

He said that the government must institute necessary policies to regulate the deregulation policy to make the oil sector more productive.

``There is need to make petroleum products more available to the people so as to bring hope to Nigerians, `` Achese said.

Achese advised the government to repair major roads to prevent the death of many people through road accidents.

``We will stop lifting fuel to places where the road is bad such as Port Harcourt, `` he said.

He appealed to the government to repair major roads to enable oil workers carry out their job effectively, saying that his members were the driving force of the economy.
