Jos Floods: Red Cross Says 4 More Dead Bodies Recovered

 

 

Mr Manasseh Panpeh, the Head of Red Cross in Plateau, told reporters in Jos that the new discovery brought the total figure of the deceased to 39.

``Many of the deceased were discovered in the rubble and banks of  Rikkos river in the course of our search for missing persons.’’

Reports say that settlements of Gangare, Ungwan Rogo and Dilimi were flooded after river Rikkos overflowed its banks following a downpour on Sunday night.

 Many persons are still reported missing after the disaster that brought down many houses.

 Among persons still missing are four family members of Dr Muhammed Khamis, the Proprietor, College of Health Technology, Tudun-Osi, Jos.

 Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of relief materials to the displaced persons assembled in two camps in Jos.

 In a brief remark at the camps,  Mr Adulsalam Muhammed, the Acting North Central Zonal Coordinator of the agency, said that the gesture was to bring succour to the victims.

The items distributed included bags of rice, millet, Guinea corn, maize, beans, clothing and some household items.

Malam Adulmajid Abdulatif, the camp Coordinator, who received the materials on behalf the displaced persons, thanked NEMA for the gesture and promised fair distribution of the items to the 180 affected families.
