Jonathan restates commitment to peace in Plateau as Fulani is buried

In a speech at the funeral service held at the Government House Chapel, Rayfield, President Jonathan assured the people and government of Plateau of Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace in the state.

``We shall do everything possible to restore peace in Plateau,'' Jonathan stated in condolence message delivered by Water Resources Minister Sarah Ochekpe.

``I am saddened by the events that led to the death of innocent people including Senator Gyang Datong and Gyang Fulani and wish to assure the people that government will not rest on its oars until permanent peace returns to Plateau.’’

The President said that it was in pursuant of peace that he ordered a military operation to be carried out in five of the affected villages in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.

While stating that the fight for the restoration of peace was a collective responsibility, the President urged the people of the state to be alert and vigilant.

``Don’t hesitate to report anything which you suspect to be ominous; do not hesitate to report even if a security operative is involved.

``As I share in the grief for the departed, I wish to condole with the Governor, families of Senator Gyang and Fulani, and the entire people of Plateau over the irreparable losses, `` he said.

Gov. Jonah Jang, in his message, said the deaths of Dantong and Fulani were painful but predestined by God, who could not be questioned.

``I believe there is no death that comes accidentally; all deaths are destined by God the Almighty. So when they happen, we should only take solace in Him.

``Fulani, whom we are going to bury today, is resting in the bosom of the Lord because of the kind of life he lived before his death,’’ he said.

Jang explained that the security challenge Plateau was passing through was allowed by God for the good of the state even though the people may grief and mourn over the demise of victims.

The governor who condoled with the family of Fulani, called for prayers for the restoration and sustenance of peace.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that dignitaries such as the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba, former ministers, governors as well as other top government functionaries, attended the ceremony.

Others were Fulani’s colleagues in the assembly and their counterparts from neighbouring states and the National Assembly.
The law maker was later buried in his family home at Rayfield,
