Dormant Ibori's $15m With CBN: Court Grants Order for Forfeiture

The money is an unclaimed property paid by an undiclosed agent of the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori.

The order was given pending the publication and hearing of the Motion on Notice for the final forfeiture order of the said property.

Justice Gabriel kolawole gave the order while ruling on an ex-parte application brought before it by Mr Joseph Daudu (SAN) on behalf of the Federal Government.

The other applicants in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Report has it that the CBN is the respondent to the application.

Kolawole further ordered the publication of the property in Thisday Newspaper to give room for claims within 14 days why the final order would not be made in favour of the Federal Government.

The applicant said that the cash was received by the officers of the EFCC from an undisclosed agent of James Ibori, former governor of Delta in 2007 as bribe to compromise his investigation.

The applicant further said that EFCC had on April 26, 2007 deposited the cash into the strong room number one of the CBN.

According to the applicant, Ibori has denied ever giving the amount to the commission or any of its officers.

The applicant said that the money had remained unclaimed since April 2007 till date and had remained dormant in the strong room of the bank.
