Beggar Bags 6 Month Jail Term for Stealing Pair of Trousers

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Emmanuel Adikwu said that the case was reported at Maitama Police Station by one Brambaifa Kennedy of Wuse 2 on July 23.

The prosecutor said that the accused entered the premises of the complainant and stole a pair of trousers that was spread on a line.

He said that the item was later recovered during police investigation.

Adikwu said that Abubakar’s action contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The accused however pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for mercy.

`` I got into the house with the permission of the security man at the gate with the intention to beg for alms.

`` I did not see anybody in the compound, then I took the pair of trousers and wore it because the one I had on was torn and in a bad condition, ’’ he said.

He pleaded for forgiveness promising the court not to commit such offence again.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ann Akobi said that the law must take its course and he ought to be punished to serve as a warning to him and to others like him.

Akobi therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment but with an option of N2,000 as fine
